OUR VISION

IWTS or Indigenous Wellness and Training Society are a British Columbia Non-Profit Organization based in Vancouver. We offer recovery programs and affordable counselling services for Indigenous persons.
We offer telephone, video, and in-person counselling sessions.

OUR MISSION

Our Mission is to train First Nations individuals who have addiction issues about Indigenous Health and Wellness principles to achieve financial independence while providing ‘land stewardship’ services to the Government and the community.

OUR GOALS

IWTS Envisions a Canada where all indigenous persons can feel equal and valued. Our goals include equipping and training Indigenous persons to be self-sufficient and to heal our communities with sound principles and training systems.

INDIGENOUS

We take individuals through a "recovery system" where we help them to admit that individuals cannot control one’s addiction, recognition that a higher power can give one strength, examine past errors, make direct amends to those individuals for those errors, learn to live a new life with a new code of behaviour and we will help you to help others.

WELLNESS

We believe almost every Indigenous Person on Turtle Island (North America) would secretly love to trade places with some of the more affluent colonizers on Turtle Island. The reason for this desire is that the Indigenous person attempts to live a traditional life but feels unappreciated for their lived experiences. Indigenous Peoples, who most likely grew up in poverty, try to live their lives according to traditions and cultures in an environment surrounded by a consumeristic population. The Indigenous Wellness and Training Society helps reconcile within the person's served these two points of view. On the one hand, they are maintaining culture and traditions, while on the other hand teaching the individual to fish, thereby becoming financially independent.

TRAINING

We believe the degree to which we achieve individual reconciliation is the degree to which we achieve optimal health and wellness. Indigenous peoples who do not reconcile the two world views very well become stuck in a self-hatred cycle, which leads to an unbalanced lifestyle. Our goal is to achieve a balanced lifestyle where addictions are no longer an issue for one year or more. Achieving wellness means an individual can freely share their stories with a less emotional attachment to those stories' outcomes.

EMPLOYMENT

How do we achieve balance and self-reconciliation? Though our "recovery system" training. Recovery is the foundation of success within our whole system. If a person maintains sobriety for a year or more, we believe they will feel a sense of personal accomplishment. The two outcomes we desire for every person served is education or employment. Either the individual goes back to school or goes back to work. If the person cannot find work, we hope to employ the individuals, teaching them the ins and outs of being an entrepreneur. Once the individual becomes self-employed, we believe they will have a further impact on future generations.

DID YOU KNOW?

Evidence shows that First Nations people experience a disproportionate degree of mental health concerns relative to other Canadians, many within this population do not access Western-based mental health services. Indigenous Wellness and Training Society offers a unique Indigenous based healing program that fills in this gap.
